Viktoriia introduces herself
My name is Katya. I’m from Kyiv. I speak Ukrainian, Russian, English, Slovak — and now German. As for my free time, I draw and I usually watch movies on Netflix. I studied marketing in Slovakia. Then I moved and now I want to continue studying at university here. I’m pursuing a Bachelor in Journalism and Communication Science and I’ve been working in marketing for a bit more than two years — in social media management, basically digital marketing.
I work part-time, taking on projects and spending around two hours on each whenever they come in.
What brought you to Vienna?
The wish to work, live, and study here.

Where do you see yourself in five years? What would you like to be doing then?
I’d like to stay in Vienna. I hope to work in a company I love — as a creative director or a marketing manager, something related to the profession I want to study. I want to integrate and have a German-speaking community around me.
If I had the opportunity, I’d like to buy a house in Vienna. Also, I’d like to have a flexible job I can do online, so I can travel whenever I want.
What was the most difficult part of German for you in the beginning?
Grammar probably — and building sentences correctly.
What motivates me is that I need German to get into university and integrate into society.

How has your feeling about the language changed since you started learning at Ikarus?
Yes, a lot. I began to understand it, and the language became more pleasant. At first it sounded aggressive when you didn’t understand anything — but once you start learning, it becomes normal and even nice.
What do you like most about your course or your teachers?
I really liked the flexibility and the fact that the teacher pays attention to every mistake, explains what we need to improve. A very personal approach and a comfortable atmosphere.
What makes Ikarus different from other language schools?
The atmosphere — I like the layout, the vibe of the lessons. Everything feels very relaxed. I don’t feel any pressure. And our group is very friendly — it helps us learn calmly.

Is there a funny moment or a nice memory from class that you would like to share?
I don’t know, every time we remember some jokes. It’s just a normal friendly atmosphere.
What advice would you give someone who is thinking about learning German in Vienna?
I’d recommend staying in places where Austrians are — where people speak German — and actually talking to them. And also to find a school like Ikarus and start learning as soon as possible to integrate faster.
